About Me
I am a freshman undergraduate student majoring in government and politics at University of Maryland College Park. I was interested in this topic because being a person of color I resonated with the Black Lives Matter movement. When Blue Lives Matter came along, I didn’t understand the movement except for the fact that they were a backlash movement against Black Lives Matter so I wanted to do research to better understand the purpose of the movement. My research question was what is the matter with blue lives? From my research I came to a conclusion that there is no such thing as a blue life but others define it as anyone in law enforcement. Nonetheless, the Blue Lives Matter movement is not needed; law enforcement already have special protections for them such as extensive indictment for those who commit crimes against police; they do not need further protections when the amount of police that get killed compared to the number of black civilians that get killed by police is unmatched, and police are undeserving of reform because they will continue to kill black people shamelessly while pushing for reform for their own cause. My final thoughts remain the same on the matter and I believe that this movement is still unnecessary.
