Those who support the movement

On December 20th 2014, two NYPD officers were killed while sitting in their patrol car. They were intentionally targeted for their uniform for revenge for the killings of black civilians: Eric Garner and Michael Brown. That was the first incident where the police force felt threatened and saw Black Lives Matter as the threat. In response, anonymous retired and current law enforcement officers created this movement “in hopes that it could prevent more officers from being hurt (Lynch 23). The main goal of this movement is to bring awareness to the dangers that police face.

Supporters of Blue Lives Matter say that members of Black Lives Matter are to blame for the homicides against policemen. They think this because there have some recent incidents of black citizens committing homicides against policemen to avenge the deaths of recent homicides against black people. One officer was fatally shot during a traffic stop, described by police as “a targeted killing, similar to recent police shootings in Dallas and Baton Rouge, La., by an African-American ex-Army reservist who’d expressed his hatred of Caucasians. He shot to death five white police officers and injured seven others. In Baton Rouge, a Marine Corps veteran, described by an official as a “black separatist, shot to death one black and two white policemen and injured three others as revenge for the shooting death of a black man by police, before being gunned down by cops.
